Im picking up a dvl 919 next week. Would you say cld d925 has similar pic to dvl 919e? It sucks that the us 919 does not read pal discs.

Hate to break it to you...

A cld-d925 has better composite PQ than a dvl-919E (european player ) I never owned a US model so I'm eager to hear how it performs... :?: Maybe it's better than a European one...
Sure different setups can have different results. :|
In my opinion any decent composite output can produce a fine picture with today's technology available.

on a crt or lcd the PQ coming from a 925 is way better than a dvl-919E. I'm sure with the right scaler or whatever the 919 is a fine performer. No need to get high end equipment. A moddest dvdo Iscan pro can achieve great pq regardless what player you use....on any type of display...!

I'm not saying a 919 is a bad player... it's a compromise to me....

enjoy the player it's a nice looking unit to have around anyway

it' analog after all you know :shh:

Back in my crt days... the 925 looked just as horrible as the 919.
When I had first hooked up the X9 to my crt, I decided never to use the 925 again.
On a flatscreen with a scaler things can be different...
Even the 925 may produce somewhat nice results (and so should the 919)
if you spend some time setting up all the scaling options right...
The results are more dependent on the scaler and the display options so to say.

Im not going to use dvl 919. It was so cheap($30) I bought it for testing. I always read that 919e and 925 were similar in picture. I want to buy a pal player. Before I did that I wanted to see something comperable. I guess 925 is more so of 704.
I will sell 919 on ebay. Im sure I will sell it for more than what I paid for it. It might even go in the range of 2-3 hundred with that I can use it towards a d925.

You will be disappointed if you compare the 704 with a 925.
But if you need a PAL player badly, I'd suggest a 2950 instead.
Always liked that machine, really heavy compared to the 925.
Has headphone output with volume control, much nicer optics.
Does not have AC-3 by default (but then no PAL discs have AC-3)
and does not have fancy freeze frame on CLV, but that ain't much of a loss.

Exactly what i thought
I dont care for ac3. That player will never play ntsc discs.
I can live without freeze frame.
I had a feeling that 2950 was lower noise soft pic vs 925 with more noise but sharp. Did i guess right?
Are you saying 704 is better but 925 is better than 604?
Well lighter player would work to my advantage since it will have to be shipped overseas

I've never seen a 604 in action.
I personally would say the picture of the 925 and the 909 is exactly the same.
I did not see much of a difference between 925 and 919 either. We are talking
european market models of those machines.

Lighter player would indeed be an advantage if you were to ship overseas.
I once shipped a 925 double boxed to greece, but can't recall the weight of
that parcel anymore. It sure was big though.

And your assumption is probably right: 2950 was lower noise soft pic vs 925 with more noise but sharp.
You will not find a player in europe that can touch the quality of the picture of a 704 or better.

I know this is a very old post, but I have to tell you guys, the DVL-H9 is by far one of the best LD players I ever owned, amazing colors and a fantastic comb filter. It was better than the S9 as there was no smear, and having owned a RG7, H9 and X9, the H9 is truly in the top tier league, regardless of it being a combo player.
