I met Patty Duke in 2010 and had her sign my "Valley of the Dolls" disc. Very sweet lady. In Dec of 2012 I met John Waters and had him sign my Criterion "Polyester" disc- he told me it was the second he signed that night- I told him there was another in line after me.

It was not I , who had the encounter with Goldie. It had occurred to me though, that perhaps it could be a member of Lddb ? Anyway, Goldie, had been asked to sign a L.D., pressing of "Private Benjamin"

Sadly I won't get Paco De Lucia to sign this one anymore... but at least John "Mahavishnu" McLaughlin did yesterday after the concert! McLaughlin, De Lucia, Coryell: Meeting of the Spirits (1980) [ALLA-116]Attachment:

Also had my 1973 Japanese LP of "Birds of Fire" and the tour CD album signed by all the band. The LP will soon be framed and placed on my wall. Julien

I spent my weekend at the Newcastle Comic Con and managed to collect a few signatures. I got many DVDs signed but my main goal was to get a few scrawls on this thing: Dave Prowse: Darth Vader (I collected this signature at a previous event though he was at this one too) Julian Glover: General Veers Paul Blake: Greedo (He swore Han shot first) Kenny Baker: R2D2 Ken Colley: Admiral Piett Paul Blake and Ken Colley were both really chatty and great characters, a pleasure to chat to if you ever meet them. Neither Julian Glover nor Ken Colley had ever seen a laserdisc before and took great pleasure in having a look through the discs and book. I've had other laserdiscs signed at previous events. I took pics of everything at the time and can't retake them just now so apologies for the DVDs The first laserdiscs I had signed. Jeremy Bulloch (Empire Strikes Back / Space Museum DVD): Boba Fett / Tor Laurie Goode (Star Wars): Saurin Sylvester McCoy (Curse of Fenric DVD): The Doctor (I managed to get this signed by Sophie Aldred, Ace, at the weekend too) Like Paul Blake and Ken Colley, Jeremy Bulloch was a pleasure to talk to, he made sure he spent time chatting to everyone waiting and answering their questions, a real gentleman. Again sorry or the DVD Caroline Munro (The Golden Voyage of Sinbad): Margiana Craig Charles (Red Dwarf): Lister Chris Barrie (Red Dwarf): Rimmer Both Craig Charles and Chris Barrie were great to chat to at this event but it's Caroline Munro I'll remember. Before I could say anything to her she immediately complemented me on my hair (which I keep rather long, yes I'm a hippie) and asked if she could stroke it! I can die happy now that I've had my hair stroked by a Bond Girl! Anyway, that's the lot for now. It'll probably be another while before I get any more signed but I'll be sure to update here when I do.

For a very long time I thought autos was not worth paying for. Sure if you personal meet the artist its great, but I would not actually pay for them. But then I actually bought an flyer with complete set of the Runaways from 1976. I will of course never know if they are real, seller stated he took them himself the day of the gig, but you will never know that. Since one member are dead, and 2 don't speak to each other I realize I will never get those. I also don't think collecting a set of the group after they split up is the same thing.
Its not really the autos that are the special thing. Its mostly that the item in question got an history. It got a history of being in a big fan home, then he got to a gig and got to meet the band and sign it. And mostly its a memory of life. Its a history of passion for the material and make a dream come truth to meet the persons behind it. In this perspective I dont think its matter if its the actual setup of the band, its not really about that. Even if I can understand its not so fun for anyone to sign something he/her had no part in. But I think a incomplete signing of a band is just as bad as 1 or 2 that wasn't on the actual album.
I still remember when I first met Iron Maiden, it was a huge dream come true for me, think I was 16 at the time. They all felt like huge giants, almost god like. This was before internet became massive so you hadn't really seen them in normal surroundings before.
I would like to get back on my runaways flyer, I want to think that this flyer have a history like that, that the band still where together, and signed fans stuff after sound check in 1976, quite amazing. In a way it is a document of time, with proof that all the band members where there.
btw I love that Extreme signing. They really made sure their autos got good. Love the one in the lower right corner, its massive and awesome.
I just realized I dont have any lds signed ever, I have to got that fixed!

My next signing challenge will be... a double challenge! Singapore will soon have a few big names visiting for the Jazz Festival, I booked both: Turns out, they are both featured playing together on a Japanese LD released 4 times: DeJohnette/Hancock/Holland/Metheny: In Concert (1990) [VALJ-3226]. I wish I had the Hi-Vision release [ALD-3904] but I only have the original Japanese release. Challenge will be to have it signed by both of them, a few weeks apart! Luckily the cover art provides plenty of space for a clean black ink marker. If they let me sign more than one, I also have a few Hancock LPs to decorate (Future Shock, Maiden Voyage) Julien
