I don't really post here anymore, more like from time to time, but this is one of those times. Kundun (1997) [PILF-2819] is a joy from the beginning to the end. It's Roger Deakins favorite movie he worked on. None of that THX DNR s**t, or that Kurary SuperNTSC crap, this is a straight component to composite transfer, with detail going so far as to some rainbow artifacts. I don't have the US Laserdisc to compare, but for the money I spent on this Japan pressing, and knowing the Blu-ray from KL is upon us, I don't regret it.

I watched Apocalypse Now (1979) [PLFFC 33761] (PAL release) recently and I was very impressed by both picture and sound qualities (except some slight distortion on the French dubbed narrator's off voice). Some sequences, especially in the second half of the movie, were even jaw dropping in terms of color saturation.

Why are we only talking about movies in this thread ? There are some amazing music LDs out there with excellent soundtracks. -> Sade: Live ( 1994 ) https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/10163/ML ... Sade:-LiveVery decent video transfer and extremely well mastered audio track. One of my favourite LDs in my collection. Bought it for 10 HK $. I love the early Sade stuff. Madonna: Immaculate Collection US https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/08835/38 ... CollectionI have an excellent early DADC USA pressing of said disc with zero rot. Excellent video and sound quality. I always show it to people to show how nice laserdiscs can look and sound. Madonna: Like A Virgin ( 8 inch release ) https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/33979/JM ... e-a-VirginExcellent soundtrack. My friend was impressed with the audio quality of all tracks. It sounds amazing and the video looks like coming straight off the master tape. Borderline is just one of the amazing pop songs ever. Sounds incredible on vinyl, too. Hiroshi Itsuki: Traveling alone on the Silk Road (1983) https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/53371/MK ... -Silk-RoadThis disc was pressed in 1983 and still plays beautifully with zero rot. The video quality is amazing. You do not see any speckles, dirt, etc. in the image itself. Such a beautiful transfer and the analogue audio track is excellent. Boyz N The Hood Criteiron https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/04129/CC ... al-EditionFantastic video transfer. Doesn't look any worse than the DVD. In fact I prefer it over the DVD anytime. The sound quality is very very good and the video is beautiful.

forper wrote: Yeah cool Confederate, music and related content are my primary interest these days too. There is a lot of amazing music related stuff on both VHS and Laserdisc. Some of that stuff was only released on Laserdisc in Japan, whilst other countries had to content with the corresponding VHS release. I have no problems collecting music VHS tapes, too. The tapes still play great after 30+ years and the sound quality is very good in many cases, better than a lousy Dolby Digital 2.0 @ 192 or 224 kbps audio track on a DVD. Video quality is between OK and good, too. Sure there is a lot of stuff on youtube, too, but the audio quality is suboptimal. I also like these Background Music discs from Japan. I could watch those all day long. One of my favourites is Shinzo Maeda: Hills of the Seasons which I own on MUSE. Okinawa Underwater is nice, too, even though it is categorised as a documentary but to me it is more a BGV title. I also have the DVD of Okinawa Underwater which has some extras that the MUSE disc does not have. It is always interesting to find these DVDs as they are hard to fine.
