Post subject: Movies on laserdisc that will probably never be put on dvd. Posted: 04 Feb 2015, 06:33 |

We all know about the original Star Wars but what about silent movies that are on laserdisc but will not have the same music on dvd. Titles such as Thief of Bagdad with the Carl Davis score & Wings. There are also lots of Pioneer concerts that have never been put on dvd such as Golden Earring & Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder im sure that laserdisc fan can name many others.

Cirio H Santiago's Naked Vengeance from 1985 was never reliesed on dvd or laserdisc
A proper reliese of Sho Kosugi's uncut version Pray for death 1985 would have been great
Speedtrap 1977 with Joe Don Baker/Tyne Daly/Robert Loggia was never reliesed on laserdisc or dvd

I have a collection of around 400 NTSC LDs. About 100 or so are TV series. Of the remaining 300, I bought about 150 of them thinking they would not be released on BD. They are generally junk, b-films, cheap sci-fi etc.. in other words no one except me care about them. On about 50 of them I was wrong. To my surprise they did get nice BD releases(heck even the moontrap got a BD release). Every few months the list is shrinking. I anticipate BD will be around for another 5 years. There is a good chance another 50 or so will be released on BD in the mean time. I am not even using the import market so far. Germans pretty much released any junk film and show from 70s,80s,90s on BD already.
One catch though. For some stupid reason, big studios gave up on catalog titles. They license them to these small studios like twilight time, shout factory etc.. These small guys charge arm and a leg for these junk films($25-40). Twilight time limits them to 3000 copies. Once they run out, people ask $100 or so on them on the bay. I dont know if I want to pay $70 for "enemy mine"?

what in the world has kept ELECTRIC DREAMS (1984) from seeing light of day in the U.S. in any video format beyond LD, VHS and BETA? i mean, i've seen EURO and AUS market DVD copies out there, no doubt there are even Asian editions. R1 DVD and/or BRD though? not to my knowledge. that said, i am ever so glad i pounced on a $40.00USD U.S. LD of the film on the BAY several years ago. i have not seen another since. i'd love to own the JPN LD as well, -it's cover photo is beautiful, IMHO- but i doubt i'd want to pay the arm leg and kidney the rare occasional copy on the market probably demands by now...
