Witness for the Prosecution (1957) [ML102517]

Splendid film, a relatively ignored Wilder near-classic, and one of the great courtroom films.

Now, I pulled this out since I don't yet have the Blu-ray and expected merely a fuzzy version of the DVD which was another lazy MGM pressing of a LD title. I didn't expect very much.

Not the case at all.

This is a strong transfer for LD with good blacks and solid contrast with a great level of detail. It looks like the DVD itself in places were it not for the spots of aliasing that creep up in suit patterns, parallel lines etc.
Audio is mono and rather strong too. There is only some noise in the background of the track and the highs and it is rather light on both of the PCM channels.

Really not a bad disc at all. Obsolete due to the Blu-ray but a good watch for any interested. Print sourced with one reel changeover indicated by visible cue marks.

Video: 3.5, no joke this looks really good for the format.
