I want to buy external PAL TeleText (VideoText, TeleVideo) decoder with Remote. Unit like NEC VX-101A or NEC TX-101NZ etc. Needed is PAL unit with RCA - composite (or S-Video or SCART) in and out. Can be also universal PAL/SECAM/NTSC external unit from 90ties. Japanese NTSC units (NEC TX-1500; Fuijtsu-General TX-20/TX21) and US NABTS units (Panasonic TU-1000X) are not capable to decode PAL or WTS format. Also I can't use special units paired with TV tuner or TV set (using TV remote) like: Sony TXT-100G; Grunding VT1000; JVC VU-V140E/V150E etc. Thank you beforehand

Hi everyone, Someone wanted to buy my spare LG-1 and made me make extensive tests to prove it worked, had me pack it and bring it back with me all the way to Europe... Just to cancel buying it at the last minute. No thanks for that. But at least you get to see a LG-1 decoder at work: Some examples: Julien

But at least you get to see a LG-1 decoder at work Thanks Julien, great to see the unit in action . Still looking for a (hopefully cheap-ish) de-coder or a player with the LD-G feature included within the spec. Thanks again & best regards, John

- 2. Plug the Toslink (audio IN) -- this is where the actual LD-G information is stored
- 3. Plug the composite video OUT that has been overlaid with the captions back to your A/V system
- 4. (Optional) Plug the Toslink (audio OUT) back to your A/V system
4. is optional because if you are watching an AC3 LD in AC3RF then you don't care about the PCM tracks, or if you are using the Coax for audio then the Toslink can be used solely for feeding the LG-1. The LG-1 does modify slightly the picture quality when active: on my system is becomes a little brighter and a little smoother. Julien

Antoine Since you're the one who made it test and pack (from eBay as toi-toine2, can't you recognize the images I sent you?!?) and changed your mind at the last minute, it's not for sale to you, at any price, ever. That would be because I never make un-instantiated accusations. You also entertained lons_vex about buying a LG-1 around the same time and also backed away at the end, but under toi-toine2. Are there any DTS discs with LD-G or isn't DTS capable of having text into it? Because any laserdisc player will output digital verbatim, so that way any ld or cd player with digital output, they could wrap dts in a wav header to be played by those. If they could add the text in it, maybe also in dts discs? Btw why is it that some people like to go into the hassle of ordering stuff and then quit, or like to 'play' with people? Is that some sort of fetish? Laserdisc fetish? I mean, i will pick up another cdv player this noon and am thrilled if i will get it working again. That is a very nice feeling. But i can't understand people getting close to a deal that is fair and then quit for fun; that is bizarre

Must be the way the LD-G or CC messages are encoded in PCM Stereo, it gets lost in DTS encoding? Julien

I should have looked some further. Here they explain that it is in some blocks in the pcm stream that were already reserved for the very purpose in redbook audio cd's and they then they could then use that in laserdisc as well: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/37-video- ... st19606758So it could never have been available on dts this way as it is not in the pcm wrapper (the one that let you play dts on old equipment that has digital out) but rather on the cd audio data blocks. Correct me if i am wrong.

Hello, thx Julien for posting those images and how to wire the decoder. I got my hands on one of those (and found out afterwards that only five of my Lds are LD-G compatible, haha) but I couldn´t resist to buy it. Everything connected with Lds is just so magical for me *smile*, now I gotta get more LD-Gs... The decoder was also cause enough for me to repair the optical output of my player (as I wrote in another thread).

However most of the DTS titles still retain Closed Captions, which are encoded in the video, not the audio. The only issue is if you are playing the title through a monitor via HDMI or DVI, the TV won't decode them as the CC signal is not included in the standard. This is a primary reason why studios dropped CC in favor of SDH subtitles on DVD.
