Hello guys!
I have the following problem - as I looked the problem up, I thought it might be a similar problem as it is discussed here. I bought myself a CLD 704D, in a very , very good optical condition, it arrived here today, problem is as follows: I put a disc in, the disc starts spinning to a certain speed, then stops. After trying it again, the buttons for play etc. won´t work anymore. I have to power the unit off, then I can start spinning the disc again.
Now the strange part: I tried various discs and one of the "lightest" discs worked. It seemed to me, that some of them seemed to heavy ?? and then the disc stopped spinning.
Could it be because of this infamous rubber belt on the spindle ? I´d be glad if anyone could help.

If it spins down and opens normally when you press open then the rubber sheet on the spindle motor should be fine. I'm guessing you have either a power supply, spindle motor or electric failure.

thx for the reply..right at the moment I´m sitting at the player. Some discs are playing, some just for some seconds, then the player stops spinning. After taking if off the power, the controls work again (seems like resetting it). Don´t you think it could be this rubber sheet problem? As some discs are playing, while others don´t..CDs are also working fine.

Since I had a sleepless night (well, I really was sad that the player wouldn´t work), I found the following solution for my problem:

It seemed that the bar that is holding the clamp was a little bit bend (maybe) and holding the disc too tight. After loosening the screws and putting some tape under the bar (so it would rise to a minimal extend), the discs run fine and smooth, no noise, no powering down. I am so happy that it was so easy to fix. The"damage" must have happened in transit, as the player was send to me in the original package but with a total amount of about 20 laserdiscs sitting on the top of the player. Maybe that / and the transportation dented the player in some way or led to this overall condition. Though I couldn´t see any damage on the outside.

Hi I'm looking for a spindle rubber for the Elite CLD 97, would that also be the VEB1237 or another? Anyone got any idea how to get my hands on one?

The rubber grip ring part is no long available, you might be able to find a NOS one somewhere.

I have had success using plasti dip liquid rubber painted on the spindle in place of a pad, I did this on one of my main players and had no trouble with it for 7 months now.

Unless your disc is slipping the 97 should not give you issues. It has a stronger magnet and better grip on the LD. If slipping a simple cleaning should do it. Otherwise a spray can of plasti dip would be the way to go.

FYI: VEB1237 replacements now available on eBay. Just search "VEB1237"
