Wondering if the recent Disney-Fox merger will pave the way for this?

Check out this thorough article on Ars Technica:
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/11/ ... s-we-want/

The major sticking point, according to the article, is that Fox owned the distribution rights to Episodes I-VI. With the merger, that may no longer be an issue.

Quote:
"Fox owns distribution rights to the original Star Wars, No. 4 in the series, in perpetuity in all media worldwide. And as for the five subsequent movies, Fox has theatrical, nontheatrical, and home video rights worldwide through May 2020."

it really is too bad, a perfect dvd would be....

1st audio track: ORIGINAL Mono (has different sounds and lines, such as when the falcon accelerates, and the tractor beam line)
2nd audio track: 35mm Dolby Stereo mix
3rd audio track: 70mm Baby Boom Dolby Stereo mix

I just bought all three JSC laser discs. I plan on transferring to my video editing computer at 1080p. I'll probably do some color correction and maybe a little bit of sharpening. I may also insert my pristine transfer of the main theme song from my original pressed vinyl LP which sounds amazing

On this subject, I am really pleased with the despecialized version. Burned them off on blank BDs and it's perfect.

I have that fan made film scan version. Aside from the colour looking "off" in some scenes, it is really nice. Beautiful resolution and nice grain. I still have the BDR file on my laptop I DL'ed years ago but still have no BD burner. That computer upgrade I planned in 2017 still has not happened. I did turn it into a 7gb avi file so I can watch it that way. Were the other two movies ever released in the same way?

I do not care how many times they say Lucas cut up the original neg for the 1997 versions, I will NEVER believe it! There is no way they would risk damaging and losing the original negatives to such landmark films. They would be too precious to risk it!

I has the JSC discs I bought a few years ago (2016 or 2017) brand new sealed for ¥500. It also included the 97 SE box set. I also have the box set. I will open those Jp discs one day and watch them.

Yes, the whole trilogy was done up the same way.

I have the original on LD as well and unless you want it to look like you are in an old theater, this fan project is much better imo.

Unfortunately I don't have a BD burner, otherwise I'd gotten the 4K restorations already. Hell, I don't even have enough hard drive space to keep them!

I secretly don’t want them to release the OT on Blu-ray. This would really make my LDs obsolete lol

Will they actually restore them and not release it to the public like Song of the South?

That's the WB which I thought was better at releasing classic stuff. I'm still waiting for Gargoyles season 3 from Disney.

Muppet Show on DVD was abandoned after two or three seasons. I don’t know if they started up again but I know it was dormant for years.

Nothing after season 3 to this day sadly.

Absurd. They made that entire lame movie and lame TV series since then and nobody wanted or asked for either.

I was thinking of buying the German box sets since they're uncut, but they haven't even released the whole series?

That's lame - like Disney not releasing all those afternoon cartoons in complete form either. The original Ducktales' second season is nowhere to be seen and I'm pretty sure there's a big chunk of episodes from Gummi Bears, Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck MIA too.

So yesterday I dropped off my recently purchased CLD-3030 to my repair guy (that's another thread) I had the rest of the day free so I spent it hunting down all of the 2nd hand stores I could find to see if I could locate any players or discs out there. (found 7 or 8 players total. Nothing very good. No discs!)

...but I did have a secondary goal...

I have several versions of Star wars on LD, but not a single DVD or BR.
With used BRs now $2-$4 & DVDs $1-$2 & the shelves bulging with them I though now might be a good time to fill in the my collection.
I knew I'd run across thousands by the end of the day, so thought this might be an easy task.

WOW! I WAS WRONG!

Amazing how people are holding on to everything from that franchise! I had only found 1 ROTJ DVD (in a very unlikely Pawn Shop in a box under a box on a bottom shelf) by that time I was running out of time & at my very last location, ...an indoor flea market with dozens of rented booths/areas. Many if not most booths had some discs. I was down to my last booth, which had 1 single small row of discs. ...so, to this point after scanning thousands of discs I came to the absolute final inch of that row of discs. ...I mean... the very last 1" in that last location, the last booth, the last row, the last couple minutes I had...

YAHTZEE!!!

Episodes IV, V, & VI BR + DVD set. Looking Mint $15. (less 10% "sale" going on)
So it's Remav with the win!

Now at least I can see what everyone is complaining about. LOL.
(Oh, that & I have an extra Jedi DVD for sale if anybody wants)

I know you're being sarcastic, but it kind of is. It was Disney's first foray into the afternoon television animation market, followed by all the others after it proved successful. Plus I think it was the only one that was not based on a pre-existing property.

Besides, I'd rather have that than something like, I dunno, the Hercules animated series or any of the other spinoff ones, none of which I thought were particularly good, except maybe the Aladdin one.
