I can't figure out what you're trying to say here.

Are these "discs you can never find a copy of at less than a ridiculous price"? Or is it "discs you will never buy, no matter how cheap, or how many copies you encounter"?
Because, seriously, "The Venus Wars" is neither rare nor expensive.

Problem with LDs is that once you have a basic collection I mean most common titles at reasonable prices it turns hard and harder to create a wider selected collection cause almost every damn ld out of there in 2017 is becoming skizophrenic pricey or unavailable pushing me to the Vhs side

I agree to a point, Late JP releases etc, but Criterion editions?

I find Criterions all the time, a few I've found for a dollar or less.

If you’re interested in things like The Cell then clearly what you want isn’t content but “rare LDs” as a thing itself in which case you have no right to complain about the price.

Quality LDs overall are very cheap and easy to find. You want hype, and hype by its nature costs money.

I honestly think the US LD of "Lensman" is harder to get than the Japanese one. I haven't so far succeeded in laying my hands on either, but I haven't searched as assiduously as I might have.

I have a US Lensman. I bought it because Camelot Music stocked it.

Or...I may have gotten it when Lumivision had a blowout sale. That's how I got Songs for Drella, which is way better than the CD version IMO.

Video quality is good. Like all Streamline stuff audio quality on the dub is terrible but the JP track is clear. Its also on the Digital, unlike Pioneer LDCA stuff was. Lumavison, from what I've seen, did a really good job. I think they used 3M.

I don't have the JP ones. I have seen them for sale over the years before though. I can think of way harder stuff to find than anything he mentions.

I sold a Japanese Lensman a few months ago for 30 or 35.
While it is hard to find you can buy one for 30-35 bucks.

If its hard for you to spend 30-35 bucks on a title then you should possibly stay away from LD and also The Cell.

Recent YAJ of Lensman: LD Special (1984) [PCLP-00074] went easily above $80. It's still in demand.

There's none available right now.

Yes, that box set is rare as it has some TV episodes and the making of for the film.
Lensman regular is just the movie and that's what I had and sold in the past.

Are you looking for the special edition or the film?? That box set has no film.

There is a copy of the TV box set of Lensman on ebay now. Box is rough but discs inside look good.
Pretty cheap considering condition.

While I would like to watch those episodes I remember not caring too much for them and its only 6 of the 25 episode series with that making of the film which
was pretty cool.

I wonder if this was one of those "lost in the fire" series?

From what I've read the Smith estate hates the anime and won't give rights to release it again.

Still $63 and no English. Even if I wasn't currently over budget I don't think that would tempt me. I do have a few no English things, but they are very special cases.

I guess it wasn't even all released on LD then? Maybe VHS?

I had read that they dubbed the first 4 episodes into some type of film possibly on VHS.
But the episodes are not 1-4 in that box set if I remember correctly, they are random.

Not bad considering I sold my copy over 10 years ago for around 150.00 and its still just as rare but rough.

I have it with the shirt too.
But I'm still annoyed how hard it is to get the discs out of those damn plastic holders...

Agreed. If I didn't know any better I would think the plastic holders were actually glued to the LDs themselves.

I have since taken the discs out and put in regular paper sleeves, but still have the plastic holders in the plastic binder box.

not much of a high-roller LD collector myself.

most i ever paid for any one single disc was $40/50 shipped for 1984 U.S. MGM/UA "ELECTRIC DREAMS"
and this was quite a few years back now, too;

Image

i had a VHS copy that my mom taped off of HBO that i watched rather often, growing up.

then, around 2000/2001, i was with my grandma at a mom-and pop used video shop -

- in fact, the same shop i picked up my very first 20/30-odd LDs for dirt cheap at, several years later -

- and i came across that original VHS edition, in the shop's "Rick's Picks" rare video section for $22.00.

finally, adoring the soundtrack for this film since childhood, i finally picked up a copy of the CD release for under $20, IIRC...
