Yesterday I saw Rising sun. This is a really bad movie ^^ but interresting stuff about LDs ! In the scenario, they say they are using special Laser Disc, very small. Here is the picture : Is it VSD ? 5 inch ? Also, do you have an idea of what is the player ? The tray seams to be good quality, and have to accept 5 inch or less ? disc.

I hated the Lost World adaptation and hate that they made so many JP films. I kinda burned out about reading his books but I hope to read them all one day.

About the disc, yes, I think they just used a mini CD. tasuke wrote: seemed like 3/4 of the U.S. population at large had had this toxic attitude about "Japan Taking Us Over" for about thirty long years there, finally beginning to dissipate by the mid-1990's or so... Yeah, same about France.

I really liked Eaters of The Dead and Congo. Some others were fine but it was hard to get into them, I do have Rising Sun and do plan to read it. He seems to get very in depth about details but after a while they are a little too much. The others I remember reading right now were: JP, Sphere, Andromeda Strain, Terminal Man. There may have been others but that's what I remember right now.

Same in Australia. The Japanese almost bought the whole of the Gold Coast (Our Waikiki beach) in the 80s. And it was different for the Americans and the Australians. A whole generation who faced Japan in total war 40 years previous were still alive in those places. Who can blame em? The Imperial Japanese were brutal and merciless.

I’m more of a Kurt Vonnegut, Asimov, Clarke, Wells, Sagan, Douglas Adams kind of guy. MC stuff feels like it’s being dictated to me by a lawyer’s math teacher. Way too uncool and straight in order to appeal to uncool straight people. It’s no coincidence that his fans often read Tom Clancy religiously, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and on more than one occasion that I’ve noticed, Danielle Steele. I guess maybe I just don’t like reading in general enough to read stuff like this. I will watch some pretty horrible anime but books take time. I didn’t mention the courtroom guy, he sucks too.

I don't generally read but while researching a miniatures wargame (one of my other hobbies) last year I got his MARINE book second hand. It was incredibly researched and my go to reference for the components and duties of a Marine battalion landing team. I found it very well written and easy to read for such a technical and detailed manual. He uses his fiction skills in one chapter to potray a near future (near future to the mid 90s when the book was written) amphibious assault with all the political backdrop. In the others he interviews Marine commander and tours a battalion, goes on exercise with them etc. Amazing book for US Marine enthusiasts. I believe he's done a series of these kind of books including AIR WING, where he hangs out with a USAF fighter squadron. Tasuke - My dad was a submarine guy in his career and reckons Hunt for Red October was impeccably accurate.

OK ! I found it ! Sony Mdp-605 Release in 1993, same year than the movie. Same face design, same round button on the right, same eject button on the top (she is pushing the eject button in the scene on the movie). Same distance between the Sony logo and the tray. I will try to buy one from yahoo aucton some day ! And I will add it to my collection of "LD players in movies".
