discolaservision wrote: I'm all for some MUSE LD but this is beyond ridiculous,I can get great LD player for the price of one of those movies. It's all relative. You could buy 10 brand new DVD players for the same price as your used LD player so which is the better buy? You could also buy used LD players all day long from Japan. They are not remotely rare. Those MUSE discs don't turn up that often especially in one big job lot with some apparently still sealed and all certainly complete. Most specimens I've seen on Ebay are fairly tatty, incomplete and still sell for hundreds.

Conversely, you could buy a Hi-Vision player, MUSE decoder and still have enough money left to buy some discs to watch on it too at the price of this job lot. That way you don't have to buy any of the more questionable quality titles in this lot either.

So out of interest I did a quick analysis of disc sales (YJP) that I've kept records for about the last 4 years (Okay I may have missed a few low buy-it-now prices that got snapped up quickly but I check quite regularly and think it's a fair representation).
Filtered the list to the 31 titles - Only 'Far and Away' didn't have a sale I picked up in that time, many multiple sales on some.
Filtered out those without the obi. (admittedly in a couple of cases this would include the side obi present but where the Hi-vision sticker was missing).
Got an average of about 20,200Y. So the lot was on average in excess of 10,000Y more per title. There was a wide range of pricing in the sample too, highest was 66.000Y for a copy of BTTF II, lowest 6,450Y for Basic Instinct. Sadly when I filter out my purchases from that the average jumps to around 24,000. Obviously I missed some bargains and/or paid too much for others!
I realise there are flaws in my analysis - mostly noted above - but this does illustrate there was definitely a premium paid for this large lot 'instant collection'. Mum was right - patience is a virtue!!
Having said all that, just like laserdisc_fan said it's all relative, if I'd just won lotto the week before might have pounced on them myself!!

lons_vex wrote: Indeed Basic Instinct MUSE is one of the worst discs they released. But I guess if you want a complete collection on your shelf it might still be worth something. The box looks pretty nice after all. Yes that's true. The Basic Instinct MUSE Box looks very nice indeed ! It's the best looking one in my collection but the video itself looks terrible. In fact, it was the first MUSE disc I played on my current setup. The video looked so bad but I was convinced that the decoder or the player must be broken.
