Besides obvious ones like THX1138 or Star Wars, there's a clip in The Lion King that was altered for DVD and subsequent releases.

The Laserdisc of Aladdin might also have unaltered lyrics for one of the songs but that's just a guess.

Your right about THX-1138, but the original Star Wars versions (original trilogy) were released on the 2006 Limited Edition Set as bonus discs aka the GOUT DVDs. And the prequels analog releases heavily differed from the theatrical versions.

Which clip from The Lion King was it and how was it altered?

Oh right, yeah, I forgot about the LE DVDs. Despite the fact that I own them. Doh!

But anyway, I was just gonna mention the redrawn crocodiles, but looks like they've tinkered with The Lion King a bit more than that. There's a full list here.

And since I'm talking Disney, they also altered Knickknack, one of the old Pixar shorts, for DVD and blu-ray releases of Toy Story, but the original version is on the CAV box set. They re-rendered the girl statues' bοοbs off.

Ransom (1996) on LD includes a extended cut up to 20 minutes longer than what is seen on DVD or Blu-Ray. Most people say it helps flesh out the film too.

For over 20 years, I never knew Ransom (1995) had a Director's Cut. Thanks!

What about The Godfather Parts I&II and Trilogy(2) Laserdisc release's?
https://www.lddb.com/search.php?adv_sea ... sort=title
https://www.lddb.com/search.php?adv_sea ... c&start=25

I keep hearing about deleted, extended, and alternate shots/scenes exclusive to certain laserdisc release's of these titles (nowhere else) being used for some fanedit extended editions, but I don't know which release's have them or what shots/scenes they are. Is this true? And if so, which ones are they?

Oh yeah, you can get the Godfather Saga version on LD, can't you? It's the TV edit of the movies that puts everything in chronological order and adds in a bunch of deleted scenes as well.

Yes but what I mean is, in the Trilogy² (I don't know which release) in the scene when Tom Hagen is leaving from Jack Woltz's house after having dinner with him and see's Janie, the girl from the birthday party at the soundstage who got a pony from Woltz, crying at the top of the staircase and then her mother comes and pulls her away, there is a longer shot of him still looking/staring up at the top of the staircase after she's pulled away until the Saga shows him looking down and walking out.

Dead Poets Society (1989) (Uncut) [7821 AS] has a 144 minute cut on LD where all other versions are the theatrical cut of 129 minutes. There are also 2 editions of "Outrageous Fortune", one which gives top billing to Shelly Long and the other to Bette Midler. The only differences are the jackets, and opening/closing credits. All DVD editions are the "Bette Midler" version.

Alien 3 has swapped credits on PAL LD; there, Charles Dance comes before Charles S. Dutton; I don't recall to have seen this on other editions. And the film has also a unique color grading, probably due to a different print used as master.

Of all the....

Skip it and watch Kurosawa’s High and Low. It’s basically the same thing except 1000 times better in ever single way imaginable.

There's a lot more additions that are being added, just doing my research on verifying the information. One I'm having trouble verifying is the Battle for the Planet of the Apes Extended Edition. Are the Japanese Laserdisc and the Uncut Blu-ray identical? Or is one a few seconds longer than the other?

Enemy Mine (1985) German PAL laserdisc contains the German theatrical version which runs longer than the US version released worldwide on DVD.

Solar Crisis (1990) Japanese edition is a different, longer version than the international/US release (also has a different, longer ending). (In-)famous for being an "Alan Smithee" film, the Japanese version is actually signed by the real director (Richard C. Sarafian).

I can't remember the scenes but this is the box Godfather Trilogy, The: 1901-1980 (1992) (Uncut) [LV15147-7] with all 3 films edited into one long saga with extra scenes and other great stuff.

I don't own this set Godfather, The: The Epic 1901-1959 (1990) [PILF-1147]
But I believe this has the first two films edited into one long version like I remember watching on TV back in the late 80s but again I'm not 100% certain on this Japanese box set.

It seems the extra footage from the German version were released as bonus material on the European DVDs and the UK Blu-ray.

Yes, as deleted scenes. But they were part of the film in the German theatrical version, and the German LD AFAIK is the only version worldwide to contain this cut in widescreen.

German DVD is the shorter version.

If they were released as deleted scenes on the DVD then it was officially released on a digital format. Unless (for example) there's a shot from the German version that didn't make it to the deleted scenes section. https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=1165

In Lion King, there was a star cluster in the sky that was supposed to have an easter egg saying SFX. People saw it and though it red SEX. That was changed for later releases.

Aladdin had some lyrics changed due to depictions of Arabs, but I believe the change took place between the Theatrical Run and the first home video release. Its on the original release of the OST though. The biggest change was when Aladdin whispered into the Tigers ear in one scene where people took as Aladdin saying something about kids taking their clothes off or something. I think that was edited for later releases.

Here's a list about changes made in Disney releases. IIRC, most restorations Disney did after the analogue era (1995 on) changed a lot of things about their films (color temps, Aspect ratios, framing, replacing original animations). The only film affected by this was Snow White. It never had a home video release before the 1994 one and it was the restoration that set the template for later ones. The films from the Disney Renascence era made it mostly unscathed since no major changes were made until their DVD releases.
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Recomm ... s/id/15617

IIRC, all the content on the CAV Criterion of Ghostbusters (CC1181L) has never appeared on any other edition of the film.
