Unfortunately I have no knowledge of the VHD, and that's one of the reasons I always stayed away from them. But if they are anything like the CED stuff, I think you can clean the disc with distilled water??? but you can't do any scrubbing like lets say a record. And I don't think you can clean the stylus, the CED stylus has a small diamond or something and that would come off. Double check on the CED forum about cleaning and if its not super valuable I would take a risk and try it. Keep us posted, always a cool format but Ty was the major VHD collector

http://www.cedmagic.com/museum/ced-patents/4145718-patent.html get out the vacuum I thought I had read somewhere that you could rinse them but I may have been wrong, its been about 12 years since I owned any CED and that was very short lived. Sort of like some of the newbs here who get into LDs. Anyway keep us posted on what you do and if it works.

I'm sure the compressed air won't be an issue as long as its not the can stuff that could leave gas on the surface, I would do some type of clean compressed air so nothing will come out and damage the stylus.
I wonder if these discs are like the CED where you can't stack them and they were stacked?

giannis wrote: theres a reason why vhds and ceds are both in cartridge.you cant clean either one.from my experience with vhds skipping usually its a disc issue that gets better if you fast forward and rewind at the spot of skipping multible times.having both formats its not only the quality of vhd that is way way better than ced but also the skipping issue is like 1/1000 of what ced is So the discs I have issues with might just have not been played for a long time? Issues seem to get better after a playthrough.

xtempo wrote: Last time I watched my VHDs it almost seemed like watching an old tape but it was enjoyable though I do wonder if I could clean or replace the stylus. The stylus is definitely replaceable and I opened a player up there is a cloth pad that the stylus runs through which I assume is meant to keep it clean (I think wiping down that pad might be a good idea). The issue I am having is with some specific discs, has to be a way to clean them, maybe just play them once through before watching.

rein-o wrote: Do they have a coating like the CED discs?? That lubrication is supposed to protect the stylus, but VHD could have been made differently?? I guess that's the question. I'm playing and I even took some dawn dishsoap to the disc and then rinsed with distilled water and it plays perfect, now did I damage something?? I'm not sure I buy that silicone coating thing, I mean I have a turntable with a very expensive stylus and I don't think twice about wet cleaning my records???
