I’m still yet to acquire my own Laserdisc player, which is good because I haven’t gotten the wrong one, but bad because my perspective on the best player is constantly changing.

The HLD models have MUSE and are highly regarded among video and audiophiles as the ones with the best playback in the industry. However, the DVL models have Component output, which I hear is superior to S-Video. [I’m not 100% on the truthfulness of this, but still.]

So what do you guys think? Money is not much of a factor as I’m saving up to get the true master player. Of course, I’d love to save some money in the end, but not enough to compromise quality.

Any input is welcome and appreciated.

I suggest doing more research on players and the format in general, most everything you need to know is already posted here.

First of LD is a composite format, so it's native output is composite video, on about 90% of players you can forget about s-video if you want best results.
The component output is only there for dvd, it is not compatible with LD.

Personally I wouldn't recommend getting a Hi-Vision as a first player, if you have funds then you'd be better off with something like a CLD-97, 99 or 704 if you want a nice player, but really any player working is a good player. Starting out you should consider the possibility you may need to purchase several machines before you find one that is fully functioning.

You really need to read the forums, all of your questions have been covered in length here.

Sjoerg is definitely correct. I know many people are conditioned to think composite is the near worst option but with LD, it's what you want to use. Svideo can be nice with VCRs but that doesn't mean you should pass on a high quality production grade VCR because it tops out at composite.

Posting the same thing in multiple threads, this is fishy.

I posted a review with a bunch of information on this player in the actual thread for the player. Don't know what else he could ask for.
