THE original consumer Laserdisc Player, IIRC. might or might not include the paperwork/owner's manual, but appears like new/complete otherwise;

Yeah, if you have infinite amount of real estate to house all the broken players you like to collect.

Isn't this model pretty much a complete write-off at this point? Finding one that still works is like finding the actual Ark of the covenant.

Also sure it's cool but even when it does work the quality probably isn't very good.

With proper post processing...you’d be surprised.

Not so much a "when" as it's an "if". The first Magnavision model was so notoriously unreliable, often not even surviving the transport from factory to store to home, that I wouldn't be surprised if it at least partially contributed to the poor startup of the format.

Has anyone seen one that actually still works? The closest I've seen is the one from the Technology Connections video and even that one has too much crosstalk to be even remotely watchable.

If you absolutely must have a player with a helium-neon laser, you'd be better off with almost anything else.

Isn’t it the same as the LD-1000?

Well I'm pretty sure it's not a clone, if that's what you mean.

I don’t have huge brain about early LD but the player I’m thinking of was one that was sold by Philips or whoever back when Pioneer was making them for them and then when Pioneer took over everything they made some more with their name on it. That may have been a different ancient top loading POS...

LOL Yes, some of the top loaders are Positive players

The only ones that I can say are worth it but not for any value are the first 7820 and I think it was the 600?? The one Ty always liked for Discovision discs.

I just remembered, I saw one of these for sale on tradera (a Swedish auction site).

Looks like it ended up selling for about 172 USD.

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... c-8010.htm - I think that's the Pioneer-built unit you're thinking about. IIRC, Disclord and blam1 both liked it. Word is - and I forget the source - that Magnavox destroyed their own players after starting to sell these, to avoid warranty claims on them.

@rein-o - you're thinking of the 660 which is a dumb enough player to not look at the vertical blank data - and hence not worry about a whole group of Discovision mastering flaws ;)

On the other side of the pond, a slightly less crap version was later sold as the VLP 600 and 700. The Philips people could actually repair them, but they're still rather dodgy.

It looks like somebody is selling that player NiB as well:

Possibility or repairing is less than low for this player.

They were shipped broken and not working, very sad as they look really great but you are just paying for a doorstop.

If you can not repair

Using the exterior
I was planning to port internal devices as CLD-XXX

However, advanced technology is required

Impossible to use

I got Magnavox VH8005 (remote model)

Looked inside and replaced the rubber belt because it was cut

Worried about the right belt size

Power ON → OK
The disc rotates when the power is turned on.
The laser is irradiated
But not read

Is there a way to repair it?

There are mirrors that tend to fall off.

This player is probably better used for decoration than attempting to actually play disks alas...

I tried again
The state did not change

Laser irradiation also works
Could not access the mirror
→ Wiring is complicated

The disc rotates, but you hear a rattling sound
It's like a pip-up looking for a disc

Model not sold in Japan at the time
I think only I own the Japanese

I wish you the best of luck in your repair attempt, but I'm honestly not optimistic about your prospects.

How did you determine the laser is firing? The HeNe tubes Philips used were horrible and out gassed within a few years.
