I've quite a few J-pop titles in my collection. There are some great ones out there and a massive range to choose from.
I'll post some pics when I get a chance of the ones I have.
This is another category I feel I haven't explored fully although I did spend 6 months just buying J-pop and nothing else at one stage!

I love X Japan! Endless Rain is Sweet!

Funny how Yoshiki did the music for the Golden Globes this year.

I saw them in NYC back in October of 2010. Amazing concert. They might have Hide anymore, but new guitarist/violinist Sugizo is a good addition and they still rock!!

Here's a good writeup of the concert: X Japan Enthralls the Roseland Ballroom

And yes, they did perform "Endless Rain"! Do like that song a lot, but if I were to pick my favorite ballad from them it would have to be "Longing."

"Longing" - X Japan

Here's the long "ending" of the X Japan Paris concert (yours truly's video).

Got lucky enough to see Luna Sea (w/ Sugizo) live in Tokyo Dome Dec. 2001.

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-langu ... uage=en_JP

I do have all the ルナシー LDs:

http://www.lddb.com/search.php?search=luna+sea

Most of the X Japan LDs (except Clips -- got it on an early DVD release -- and [SRLM 297]) including:

X Japan: Celebration (1990) [CSFM7009]
X Japan: The Artists [TOLK-6034]

I also have the only L'Arc~en~Ciel on LD: L'Arc~en~Ciel: Heavenly-Films (1995) [KSL5 4017]

Have to confess that this is a long time favorite: Namie Amuro: 18 19 20 films [AVLD-80013]

On my wishlist:

Every Little Thing: Concert Tour '98 (Time to Destination) [AVLD-80014]
ミスターチルドレン: http://www.lddb.com/search.php?search=Mr.+children

Some of my favorite bands are from Japan. I would say that in the end of the 80s and in the 90s Japan was top class in making music. Making there own style inspired from all western genres made a great mix and are still today quite unique.

One of my favorite bands have to be The Blue hearts, I got 1 laserdisc which is a live gig, great quality and sound, sadly I couldnt find it at the moment so I dont know the title. Blue Hearts Are considering a Punk/popish band, the clash/sex pistols of Japan.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TvyUGZSv1Q

Also Globe is a great pop/dance/electronic band. The early years that I prefer were a more britpop/pop-influenced sound. Later on they became more a dance/electronic band. A trio that became huge in Japan and known in the rest asia as well. Apparently made 3 laserdiscs which I will get very soon, Laserdisc-fan owns them all :P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-oNGEGc8Qc - And of course, Keiko the female singer is ultra cute!

But my favorite now would be Judy And Mary, This might have been one of the best alternative-pop/rock bands in the world. Think there is 2 lds available. One collection of videos and one live gig.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ApJKJy9yTM great early clip, mayby on the video collection ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnXo6taEN28 - this is from the miracle night diving laserdisc, the ending song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-193vhhvTk&feature=related - this is not available on laserdisc but it is still a great gig, available on dvd =)

Crazy for japanese female(dont know why) j-rock/pop the hottest right now is Scandal, sadly not on ld:

1998-2000 ended up an awesome period and even Japanese people would still agree with me since songs from that period are constantly re-elected in the "Best 100 songs ever" each year on NHK. The explanation seems to be that computer, direct-to-disk, notator and other Macintosh-based recording technologies made possible the birth of indies/private labels outside of the big majors's control. Somehow the majors re-aquired most of them in the early years of the 2000's and musical creativity in POP music significantly dropped.

Some mainstream (or less mainstream) songs of the 90's are still classics to this day (multiple YouTube links for each when available): SMAP, Kinki Kids, GLAY, Ayumi Hamazaki, Dreams Come True, SPEED, Brilliant Green, TRF (TK's group before GLOBE), SPITZ, Hitomi, Every Little Thing, Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro (another of TK's protegee).

And I'm missing a bunch of other cool singers/groups, I could go on for hours :P

Recently K-POP has been raising my attention production quality suddenly jumped to international standards. To be followed closely!

Just picked up:
all 3 lds with globe

Every Little Thing: Concert Tour '98 (Time to Destination) [AVLD-80014]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmkjFl_0DVk&feature=related

Princess Princess: The Last Live 1996.5.31 at Budokan [SRLM 538~9]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D8Uyj67wY8&feature=related - dont think this is anything for me but the sleeve looked beautyful =)

Rebecca: Dreams On 1990119 [CSLM 189]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS_DvwuAxhs&feature=related

Judy and Mary: Miracle Night Diving Tour [ESLU-451] just watched this and the PQ might not have been the best but its ok+. What I dont understand is why they dont play the songs from their first cd, thats their best work!

Now only thing I have to do is to wait 2 months for them to arrive. I actually only brought 1 ld back home on the flight wich was Judy And Mary - night diving tour, with the regular sleeve. which I am really looking forward of watching tomorrow.

And for Luna Sea fans, they re-released 8 of their albums on 180g vinyls for the 30th anniversary of the band.

Enka? man you would have to dig deep here to find fans. My machi in Jappan had a famous enka singer who would return to do concerts. Every song sounded the same to me..I dunno there was a young guy who did enka, on TV almost every night in Japan late 90s I used to watch, Kiyoshi or something, might be worth checking out.
