You know some of the late issue laserdiscs look as good as DVD sometimes this one looks like an obvious old tape source. I'm glad to have it don't get me wrong because i don't have the Japanese VHS. Audio is mono and not good at all full of hiss.
Somehow the Letterbox LD, 16:9 anamorphic DVD and Blu-ray from Japan all came from a remastered source. If the film was composed at 4:3 why hasn't TOHO remastered it? Hi skyjedi. Can you link to the Letterboxed LD of Beautiful Dreamer? I can only find two 4:3 issue from Japan. I have all the UY LDs from Animeigo but this is the only UY movie I don't have.

I think I have the same set and I can't remember if this shot is missing, I will check. Thanks for the DM on UY Movie 2 btw, appreciated.

The last few nights have been:
The Electric Horseman - Blurry bad Discovision release, horribly pan and scanned. You almost never see a persons entire head until side 3. Absolutely rot free though at 41 or so years old. I kinda want a Blu-ray of this because if done right it would be SUCH an upgrade. This movie has nice shots of prairies and also Vegas but just looks like mud the whole way though on this LD.
A Day at the Races - A Warner Archive DVD…-R. Yes, Warner just sells burns out of their trunk now. Quality is great…for now.
How to Steal a Million - A JP release, P&S, not that bad though. Amazing cover. If I collected swords I would totally frame this.
Macross Flashback 2012 - One of the most important LDs of all time! Looks better than the upscan in the Blu-ray box when running through my setup. Since this OVA was designed for video and not film/theaters I’m not sure if there’s a good way to HD this without recreating all the SD video stuff which is always controversial since it never looks right. I don’t think that magic shimmering stuff that’s raining off all the ships can be successfully recreated.

Agree SoZ. I also consider my Flashback 2012 LD an essential cornerstone of collection. I love it more than any person. But I could say that for almost all of my stuff. Actually, I love '80s Jun Togawa more than maybe half my collection? I mean if I could either go on a date to Harajuku Wendy's with 1984 Jun Togawa or keep 50% of stuff from burning I would probably choose the date with Jun. But only if FB2012 wasn't in the burn pile.. I watched Avenging Force on a crisp VHS. All the corny conspiracy stuff (Cartoonish extreme right wing nazis who hate blacks - so funny that in the real world of 2024 the problem is extreme left wingers who actually team up with real nazis! The world has become a reverse parody of itself!) was interesting and needed a lot of rewinding which is a pleasure with VHS. Unlike choppy, blocky, stuttery DVD winding VHS is smooth and natural with only a couple of thin white lines. At 1x reverse speed it actually looks almost as good as normal play. VHS is incredible and so HUMAN. I'm also reminded what a classic team Dudikoff and Steve James made. Also this movie has a really cool open-ended ending. I still hope Firstenberg makes a sequal to hunt the 5th member of the Pentangle! SO PRESCIENT - THE ENEMY IS WITHIN! , the James character is anyway. Also, Firstenberg - pure genius. Actually I think I love Steve James and Sam Firstenberg more than maybe 10% of my collection? I mean if James (RIP) and Firstenberg had guns to their heads and a pile of just 10% of my stuff was about to have petrol poured onto it and a match applied I would probably choose to save James and Firstenberg and let my stuff burn! That's how much I appreciate these guys.!

OH been gettin into tons of music stuff tonight: Rie Tomosaka - A Rebours VHS (Been a fan since '98, had her first album on minidisc booted from a Sydney Rocks CD conbini (peak JP tourism) and her VCD, 12 colours (Syd Chinatown) then) I just thought she was pretty, but her music was really good too. Minako Honda - Minako in LA plus Minako in Hawaii VHS (Been a fan since I walked into Tacto shop in Tokyo in 2007 (directed by http://kayokyokuplus.blogspot.com.) http://www.tacto.jp/idol/idol-top.htm is a specialist in Idols. While picking out Rie Tomosaka, Senri Oe and Yumi Matsutoya CDs and DVDs, Honda's M'Syndrome CD cover randomly stood out to me at the time and I bought it on a chance. I turned out to adour it. And her. I later found out she died young. Such a classic person. I love her forever and have all her CDs and LDs at this point I think?) Minako Dramatic Flash LD (Coz she was rockin the coach's jacket for this release in Minako in LA.) https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/49802/L0 ... atic-Flash! SO GOOD.

I can’t imagine not knowing this movie. This was super huge with the cooler kids when I was like twelve. They ran it on HBO a lot. Masterpiece. I have the US LD and the JP LD that is named “Bandit Q” for some reason. IIRC the US one is better. I need a Blu-ray if this…
