Found a seller with this 1995 Pioneer model locally. My first LD player with the AC-3/RF output. Came with a functioning remote and the previous owner noted that he had replaced the belts - tested out good at home. I guess my next step is the AC-3 demodulator, a quick ebay search reveals, yes, it will likely cost me more than the player itself. Otoh, I do have about 30 5.1 discs in my collection, including the always-awesome Six Days, Seven Nights.

Ended up buying a refurbished Denon AVD 2000 for a reasonable price on ebay. There was some corrosion on the metal, so I had my doubts, but it does in fact convert the Ac-3 signal to optical digital and feeds my AV receiver. I am at the cutting edge of mid-90s tech!! Thanks to ldfan & everyone for the advice.

Nice!! Another great thing w/ the AVD-2000 in particular is that it does have an "auto mode" for the AC3-RF input. If you leave it on, the processor will know to default back to the Optical 1 input for PCM when there is no AC-3 on the disc you are playing. Also, mind if I ask about how much you got for the AVD-2000? Just wanted to prove a point that they can be had for a lot cheaper than a stand alone AC3-RF Demodulator.

That auto mode sounds nice, although my current line up of LD players has one with optical, one with AC-3, one with analog L/R only, and none with all 3! Still, might use it for all my older components, including a late 80s CD player my neighbor was going to throw out. The ebay ask price was $69.00 + s/h - about 50% of the cheapest demodulator I saw. Posted a camera photo of my setup on Laserdisc Forever, if anyone wants to check it out!

Actually... you can still use all three. Run the analog L/R to the AV Receiver on the same input you have assigned to the Denon AVD-2000. When you want to hear analog from the player, you simply turn off the AVD-2000 and the AV Receiver should auto switch to the analog input as it loses detection of the digital signal (may have to leave your AV Receiver on an auto detection mode for analog/digital switching). This is how I used my AVD-2000 for my dual LD player set-up... Dual LD player Home Theater with PCM, AC3, & DTS capability

Thanks for this. I'm keeping an eye out since I'm looking to improve my sound setup.
