When I tried it in my DVL-909, the LDs and CDs worked fine, provided you don't have the ring overlapping the edge of the turntable. DVDs start up, but when they hit the inner limit of the DVD, playback aborts. Removing the new ring completely and playing a DVD without a ring at all, the DVD playback worked. However you can't run an LD in that state. I even tried cutting off 3 strips and putting around the turntable (like the inner DVD grip rings which are white) hoping that less ring would get me around the issue, but no luck (although it did still work for LD). I ended up replacing the entire motor to restore the player to operation.
