Hi everybody, I also posted in a previous thread, but for those not following that thread, I'm happy to announce that I've begun manufacturing an equivalent replacement for the VEB1237 grip ring. Search for it on ebay and you'll find it, of find me over at Laserdisc Forever on facebook.

Very interesting, I was going to look into making them when I had time.

Are you using an Osborne punch? or are you getting the stock supplier to punch them?

That's how I was going to do it.

These will NOT work on the DVL units. While they will fit the turntable, they are too thick and focus on DVD will fault.

Thank you for posting that, I know the mat I replaced on my 503 is VERY thin.

Bought a few of these VEB1237 grip rings.

They work great on my
cld-99elite
cld-Hf9G
They also fit the European cld-2950 units and the US CLD-D70.. series

It takes some patience getting it right. players work like new.

it's a more then reasonable price for the actual part since you're player is good to go for many years to come.

So it must be for LD only, the DVD or CD may not work?

Sounds more like a DVD issue only since DVD requires a tighter focus from its laser pick-up. I would assume CD is fine since it uses the same laser pick-up used by LD.

When I tried it in my DVL-909, the LDs and CDs worked fine, provided you don't have the ring overlapping the edge of the turntable. DVDs start up, but when they hit the inner limit of the DVD, playback aborts. Removing the new ring completely and playing a DVD without a ring at all, the DVD playback worked. However you can't run an LD in that state. I even tried cutting off 3 strips and putting around the turntable (like the inner DVD grip rings which are white) hoping that less ring would get me around the issue, but no luck (although it did still work for LD).

I ended up replacing the entire motor to restore the player to operation.
