I totally disagree. I knew very little of the foundations of Giant Robo: The Animation when it came out and it blew my mind instantly. Every time an episode was released it was like Christmas...and it happened about as often since it took six years to release seven episodes, I think.

Lol, I didn't think I'd start a whole anime discussion.

Watched DBZ when it was relevant, but Honestly I'm only just watching through the OG series right now for the first time. At where Goku is starting to fight Picolo. I've had chances to watch throughout the years but just never did. Started watching it like a month ago and got hooked, the humor is so much more awesome then DBZ. The creators were definitely pervs, and that one pedophile dude? Like, really?? I'm enjoying it way more then I thought.

just chiming in since we are talking about DB but I saw some early in the 90s before school and DBZ though I didn't see much but Yu Yu Hakusho is much better. Why the DB series is that long is annoying as hell.

Hijacking this to get back to topic.
I think LD prices are pretty much the same, I really don't feel they have gone up in the past 4 or so years.

While I have sold a few high priced pieces on ebay they are Japanese box sets which would have sold in hrs but now it took about 9 months or longer if
memory is correct.

I feel that the market is broken into 3 parts as all collecting markets are.
But this market is the following:
1 people like myself you have all I need and am just enjoying or phasing out.
2 people who keep missing that disc or set for their collection and just finally pull the trigger and pay the high price since they are tired of waiting.
3 new generation of people mid to late 20s who want to collect something and figure this will be fun until the players die on them.

I have a feeling it could be based on certain franchises/series.

Anything that's huge and still largely in the publics eye will always command more then all the rest of the LD's which don't have a massive fan base

Mario Bros movie LD's for example are regularly being sold on ebay. Probably to people who don't even plan to watch it, but want to hang it up on their wall or something.

Otherwise, your only selling to the LD collector, which I'm sure most of you have your collections as complete as you care to have by now, so the market is small.

I'm at 400 or so titles but I think I'm about 150 titles off "complete". Only want to sell 2 discs.

I don't really see any point where I would consider my collection "complete". Well, except maybe when I own all those computer animation titles like I was supposed to, but there's maybe like a dozen of those.

yeah it's really a mix of Hollywood stuff, Hong Kong stuff, anime box sets, military documentaries and Japanese music concerts that I still need now, just more of the kind of titles I already have. Of course there are probably known unknowns. ie there are titles I know I would want that I don't know about yet. That's tricky..

There are so many LDs there is probably always one I would buy. At this point I am missing many I would consider essential but they aren't always even up for sale...

2nd coat of paint is going on floor today of the sunroom to cover over the horrible tan/yellow/other color mix they put down.

Then I can get my bathroom sink out of my living room until we get the plumber over for the upstairs bathroom.

Then I can try to move some stuff around and then hopefully get all the lids off my cases.........

Its really horrible and I've never lived in a workzone before.

Hmm, "complete" may not be the right word.. I know all too well some collections are never complete. You know how it is when you start collecting and how fast it goes, but things tend to slow down as the collection builds and you're more satisfied with it. Or is that just me?

I'm having a hard time seeing it as a successful business case because most of them can be bought on YAJ via proxy at a lower price.

Same seller has multiple accounts (not sure why) but always shoots pics the same way and the prices are really, really high:

https://www.ebay.fr/sch/Laserdiscs/381/m.html?_ssn=ralph3043
https://www.ebay.fr/sch/Laserdiscs/381/m.html?_ssn=fantomas-lover

https://www.ebay.fr/sch/Laserdiscs/381/m.html?_ssn=japanrecords
https://www.ebay.fr/sch/Laserdiscs/381/m.html?_ssn=fantomas.lover

Reminds me of DaDon going full investing and trying to resell with a comfortable margin, but that didn't end very well.

Some recent feedback show a few high price transactions but I can't see this covering the cost of buying loads and importing from YAJ.

I think that's what the Aussie guy in SA does. He just ships stuff via y!jp seamail and resells on ebay. He just sold off a ton of stuff for $3 a piece. Can't see him making much money? Who knows, maybe an economy of scale exists.

The only way it worked was years ago, I still have half of my last order, but about 1/4 was stuff to keep so I'm really only stuck with 1/4
Only worth if it there is a rare disc you must have and nobody else will get it.

I think the Aussie is getting bulk with other stuff possibly in container and then wholesaling the cull and marking up the better at other
venues other than ebay.

Is that the seller on here as Maniac Laserdisc

Some interesting titles, some rather optimistic pricing.

Cheers

Might as well indeed.

9 transactions but I'm still waiting to see good feedbacks coming back.

Found posts (account required to read the posts) about how surreal high pricing was dating back to 2016 on French Laserdisc Plaza forum using even more eBay usernames:

Then we're lucky we're getting a "discount" on LDDb:

https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/shop/28049/9653/Tom-et-Lola

Here as well:
https://www.facebook.com/laserdiscworld1
https://www.facebook.com/gordongekko.gordon.9

Buying bulk for cheap and trying to gauge individual titles separately hoping to make up for the purchase with a single sale?

It's starting to get a "cararte" vibe.

When I asked for the Apes boxset he said he was eyeing two auctions that may end low enough for him. I think I probably got the box he was eyeing direct?

My guess is he's got family or friends over there that can buy this stuff for him and ship it without fees.

Oh yeah I recognize this floor on the LD pics, it's fantomas lover.
I like trolling the guy from time to time like making a 12€ offer on a 130€ ghost in the shell box set :D .
This guy must have been raised too close to the wall to put prices like that.

Like :wtf: 400€ for common Alien copies and boxsets.
