jakeheke wrote: So would not even be much of a difference between CAV and CLV releases? In theory, if your player is perfectly aligned, there shouldn’t be any difference in video quality between a CAV and a CLV version of the same thing. In reality though...sometimes it seems like CAV looks better. I don’t have a ton of movies where I have both CAV and CLV versions and they used the same master. In general I wouldn’t really get CAV unless you wanted to really study the movie frame by frame or if there is other additional content which is sometimes the case with early Criterion, for example. By the time Jurassic Park came out CAV was much less common that it was in like 1985 or so.

re CAV/CLV - at the beginning of each side they're the same, but the further you go into a CAV side the faster the linear velocity of the pickup, and the RF bandwidth of the signal improves, and the noise along with it. I've found a few dB improvement between outer-CAV and CLV. I have one Sony (Japan) demo disk with both CAV and CLV sides of the same content, but the mastering is different enough to prevent a perfect comparison But really, if you're worried that much about such things just look for a Blu Ray and be done with it

xtempo wrote: this is by far the best release in terms of packaging Jurassic Park (1993) [PLFMD 32701] Bloody chunder, it’s ozzy PAL though. I don’t own this movie and kind of would like to so I guess I just need the DTS or AC3 version? I’m not really interested in bonus stuff since honestly I don’t really care that much about this movie.

It's just a shame that the DTS Gatefold has a mouth opening facing toward the inside of the gatefold... Therfore making it extra difficult to pull the discs out without damaging the gatefold. Dumb idea. Never had any other gatefolds like this one.
