The last book I read was Rascal by Sterling North, for the second time, this time with my kid.

Before that I think it was Diary of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith or maybe The Time Machine, I can’t remember.

Can someone remind me how to block users again? It’s for some reason very hard to me to find and I’m going to use it for the first time here. I hate to block anyone on a forum this small but the psychic price isn’t worth being open minded towards forper. Let his shrink fix him, I’m cashing out. Ignorance is triumphant.

Currently on board with some of the novels like Romance of the three kingdoms and The tale of Genji (loved this one). Not really a fan for western novels.

Reading "A War Like No Other" how the Athenians and the Spartans fought the Peloponnesian war by Victor Davis Hanson.

Also reading Stephen Donaldson's "The Illearth War" from the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever.

Good to open a book and escape for a awhile.

Good day forum Friends Firehorse_44, Clackmedone, Signofzeta, Forper, Rein-o & Potter85412,

What are you reading.

To be honest when I read the above subject I thought you know what, I really need to return & read my Bible and Lord Of The Rings large hardback and, then read J.R. Tolkien's unfinished at the time at his passing Literary work, completed by his Son read below;

In April 2007, Christopher Tolkien published The Children of Húrin, whose story his father had brought to a relatively complete stage between 1951 and 1957 before abandoning it.

I placed a deposit at the time for the first Edition at release & purchased when it arrived £60..... It's a lovely hardback book in a slipcase......I need to read all of the above, so thank you all for inspiring this Man.

Take Good care of yourselves everyone, and thank you for being members here, it's always refreshing when visiting this site / forum and is a unique experience.

Kindest Regards

Well, it's not right now, but I read Bonfire of the Vanities not long ago for the first time. I was so impressed that I immediately bought a DVD of the de Palma film version. Oh dear.

I think that is probably the most extreme example of the book being better than the film that I know of.

I knew this was a dead thread the second I noticed the last post is from forper.

Anyway!

I just finished reading Judge Dredd Complete Case Files volume 1 and I think the biggest shock to me was the amount of content I'd actually read as a child; I guess when they started printing Judge Dredd in Finland in the late 80's they had a lot of catching up to do, and in addition to a series of albums (the really large tpb format normally used for stuff like Asterix or Tintin) there was also a short-lived monthly magazine which I had a single issue of. Which unfortunately also meant that they reprinted stories wildly out of order, the first album had like three different Chief Judges, showing just how far apart they were chronologically and how they really just did not care, outside of the massive multi-issue story arcs which usually ended up having at least two whole albums dedicated for them. The first volume of CCF though only contained two major story arcs, the rebellion of the robots (which was a far cry from the later epics in terms of scale) and the Luna-1 assignment which was more of a series of vignettes rather than a single long-running story. Still, it was a lot of fun seeing these early stories in their proper order and how the writing and art evolved over the years.

Except for Brian Bolland. He's always been excellent.

I read this same book a few years ago. Never a big fan of 2000AD but I liked the Stallone and the later Dredd 3D films. Saw both at the cinema on their releases too.

The thing with the comic that struck me is the huge difference in style between the early comics and the evolution over the years. It didn't do much for me so after finishing book 1 and a flick through some later volumes I was done. Totally appreciate its impact though, just not something I instantly took to.

Currently reading some blockchain tomes. In terms of non-fiction stuff, nothing at the minute but Andrew Cartmel has a brand new title in his Vinyl Detective series due any day now. I've read all of these to date and highly recommended them. Brilliant stories. I get those digitally though, usually Kobo or anywhere else (legally) than Jeff, then throw them in to Calibre and remove any DRM before tossing them on my Kobo.

This is a good interview for Vinyl Detective fans by the way:

https://www.resistormag.com/features/th ... ollecting/

Only other fiction I've got teed up to read soon is the new To The Stars series from Sylvain Nuvel. His Themis Files books are bloody amazing. If you like Black Mirror, The Test is very good too.

If you choose to read A History Of What Comes Next then you'll need the playlist, which is here:

http://neuvel.net/2021/03/24/the-playlist/

Useless trivia: I compiled the Tidal playlist and sent it to the author as when the book was launched the publishing House only promoted Spotify and Apple Music.

Just finished "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield (again !)
Novel about the Spartan resistance at Thermopolyae.

Currently reading "Neptune and the Quest for Redemption" by Liz Greene.
A invasive look at the myth and cosmology of the Planet Neptune and the struggle against dissolution and self redemption.

Picked up a unabridged copy of "The Stand" by S. King.

Also ordered a copy of "Ready Player Two" by Earnest Cline.
Loved the first part "Ready Player One" by same.
1,000,000 times better than the movie hands down.

Cheers to the membership.
