Don't know if this counts but there are very few that I know of with books.

There are very few. Mainly this is because books add exactly that much thickness to a box. Also, publishers want real money for books so you’re adding $20 to the price of an LD, even if it’s the paperback, even though by the time Schindlers List came out on LD you could find mint condition used copies of the book for $7 everywhere, assuming someone who wanted to pay $150 for that set didn’t already have the book (in hardcover even).

IMO they don’t really belong. CDs with really big books I like, probably because reading while listening is a thing people actually do. I can’t read Schindler’s List when watching the movie version of Schindler’s List though.

Not very many have the novelization. Several have additions like a copy of the shooting script (Hellraiser, Wizard of Oz) or other associated print materials (E.T., My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Rocky Horror, Schindler's List)

Jaws wins this one too. Comes with both CD and Book. The most complete home release ever.

Not a novel included but the rather nice box set Neon Genesis Evangelion: Limited Box on KILA 9401-4 has included among the number of extra inclusions an 800+ page storyboard book.

Haha well in my initial post i knew about Schindlers box set and Jaws box set as i own them, just figured would be a stack more.

I think the Schindlers List Box Set is quite nice, not often do you buy a film which includes the book (Fiction btw in this case) CD, and a very nicely presented booklet and guide.

Yeah when I saw what all was in the set, it seemed like a great value, and my wife has been wanting a copy of the book anyways so two birds one stone.

Jaws one is a bit more expensive, but I'm happy you put it on my radar :D

I think I paid $15 for Schindler. In the early days of eBay that was all it cost. It sat around in large piles for quite a number of years. I’m sure someone still has a skid of them somewhere.

I’ve had the movie for 20+ years and I’ve watched it twice and I read the book once. It’s a pretty special movie for dozens of reasons. What makes it most watchable is that it ignores almost every Hollywood chiche to the point where the movie feels almost European. I have to say that the red coat moment is less impactful now that I’ve also seen Kurosawa’s High and Low but at least he’s cribbing from masters. A lot of dumb corny Americans wanted to star in this movie but Spielberg wanted relative nobodies (most rolls anyway) which goes a long way for me personally as I don’t like “star power”. Apparently Costner and Gibson were both in talks to play Schindler. Cheese and crackers got all muddy. Can you imagine? Talk about dodging bullets. He also refused to shoot it in color for home video which was the studios request. When you have small budgets (well, $22M is kinda small) you can do this. When the movie is $300M you have almost no power. The producers control everything.

He didn’t seem to care for the process much though...still went on to make Lost World, Tintin, and Crystal Skull....half a billion bucks worth of total crap.

The Syd Mead Kronolog box is probably the example of including a book in a LD. In this case, really lavish art books by the legendary futurist designer who worked on everything from Blade Runner to Turn A Gundam. Way beyond my budget, and probably even more $$ now that Mead recently died.

That’s been on my list forever. Now that he’s dead there are eight (8) copies of Kronolog on eBay so I guess I’ll never own it. Everyone wants $1000+ even for f-ed up ones whereas you could find this for $350 or so maybe 6-8 years ago (it you could find it).

The topic seems to call for LDs that come with books, either the origin of the movie or a novelization.

If we are going to expand the topic to any book at all then one of my favorites is Meitantei Holmes (Famous Detective Holmes): Memorial Box (1984) [TKLO-50023]. The 290 page softback book contains not only line art for the series but also all the continuity for the Cliffs of Dover ep (IIRC) so you could theoretically re-key animate the entire episode with these resources. The format of this book is almost the same as ones that come with the Gundam Origin Blu-ray LEs.

Lupin the 3rd: Cagliostro no Shirou (Castle of Cagliostro) (1979) [TLL 2473] is an odd one. It’s the Streamline dubbed version of the movie including the murdered intro. Also included is the entire script of the film. Presumably this was for English language education.

There are uncountable releases with stapled together booklets with maybe 32 pages, many with great photos and illustrations but it’s hard to think of them as a “book” exactly.
