Just had this LD-V8000 delivered today. Might end up with a series of problems, but first is powering it on. It only stays powered when the button on front is held in. When I let it go, the machine turns off. Should it stay in with a click? There is no click.

Got the case covers off this beast. What a tank! I see the power button in front pushes a long rod that engages the real power switch inside the rear of the deck. Still won't stay on, but am exploring.

UPDATE: OK, got the power switch working. Next problem: The disc tray will not open. Sigh.

Are the gears making noise?

Maybe a belt to replace or the mechanism that got stuck in transit?

Maybe worth checking: [LD-V8000] Loading problem

Thanks, Julien. I will follow that link and read. I do hear gears moving. This player has a lot of stuff inside, so will take some effort to even get to at the belt I suspect. This might take me a while. :)

Well you will have some time to tinker with that player.

Good luck with the repair.

looks like a fair bit of parts commonality with the CLD-3030, including the laser pick-up assy.

too bad that the entire transport assy. doesn't appear to be compatible;
it would be pretty cool to retrofit a robust, industrial-grade LD-only transport into the 3030 chassis...

I didn’t know they could break.

Seems like all LD player horror stories start with eBay.

Yes, indeed! From eBay I have purchased a DVL-909 that arrived in good working order, a CLD-2080 that arrived with a stuck drawer that I managed to unstick and is now in good working order, a CLD-503 that needed its drawer unstuck and its side change "flipper" unstuck but now refuses to play more than a few minutes before stopping, and this LD-V8000 that is promising but has these hurdles I am facing.

I've set it aside for a couple of days until I can make a space to work on it.

Meanwhile, on Monday I take delivery of another eBay purchase ... another CLD-2080. Maybe I will get lucky again with that model.

I have two Mitsubishi M-V7057 players that were my favorites (clone of Pioneer 704), but both are non-functioning now. One I think has a dead laser and the other I think needs aligning. Hope to get one or both working again.

My goals are twofold. 1) Be able to play laserdiscs in different rooms (living room, den, bedroom). 2) Have enough redundancy to ensure playback of my large laserdisc collection for many years to come.

Sadly, my skills and knowhow at fixing things are not great.

I need to hit up Kurtis again to see about working on something. :)
