I remember watching Fight Club at the cinema when it came out. Left a huge impression on the audience.

Great film. Must watch it again soon.

Not a fan of The Matrix films, they do absolutely nothing for me.

The original Matrix is great IMO. Not a perfect film, but great action, over the top entertaining fight scenes and a pretty good story with a nice cyberpunk feel to it. Always an enjoyable watch for me. Hugo Weaving's performance as Agent Smith is also one of the highlights.

Now the sequels are just awful. They took themselves too seriously after the success of the first one, and they suffer for it. The stories get bloated and are poorly told. The original felt like a lean film, despite being over two hours long. None of the time is wasted.

I was never really a big fan of Fight Club, but maybe I need to watch it again. It's been a while.

Fight Club is one of those movies that have somehow managed to become more relevant with time, with themes like mindless consumerism substituting for personality or loss of masculinity.

The one that really does it for me is Starship Troopers.
Need to watch that one again.

haven't seen Fight CLub but don't care to. have seen the Matrix and the seqquals and animatrix at this point I don't care anymore about though I am hanging on to the digibook blu-ray which I haven't finalize my mind yet on getting rid of it. Its decent as one and only one movie the others seem a cash grab.

I think what I really hate about Fight Club is Edward Norton. I hate that guy. He looks like a little kid in a mans body. Kinda like DiCaprio, I can't take him seriously. I also hate Brad's shirts. Worst '90s trends right there.

Matrix again is that gothic look. I hate goths, always have, always will. A lot of nerds started dressing like that after the movie, well and before.

I also kinda hated Starship troopers for a long time too. Probably because, at that time, in the late '90s I stopped having friends and my ex friends all liked it. I went my own way and focused on '80s anime and Japanese pop music, so I had nothing in common with anyone I knew. It prepared me for today when I'm completely alone : ( with my laserdiscs! : )

I can't stand Brad Pitt in general. Absolutely horrible actor. A few of his movies are good in spite of him.

Just bought a Japanese import of Richard Thompson's "In a Crowded Room"
An early 1980's life performance capture from Canada.

Thompson started out as a lead guitarist with the British band Fairport Convention. He left to start a solo career in the late 1960's.
Been touring his whole life ever since.
Caught him in Charlotte and Atlanta in December of 2018. The guy is in his mid 70's and pounded out a solid 2 hour concert with his "trio".
His standout drummer Michael Jerome is a spectacle unto himself.
Richard released a new CD in 2018 titled "13 Rivers"
Check it out, great music by a Master guitarist.

Cheers,

J

I used to feel that way but as he gets older and uglier I thinkhe is actually a pretty good actor. Thought he was good in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And at least he doesn't look like a little b**ch man child like his counterpart, Di Caprio in that movie. I don't know what Tarantino, or Scorcese see in Di Caprio, to me he's still that annoying cool kid on Growing Pains.

I forgot about the 90s crap clothing in fight club, it was the start of being cool to be grungy and that I wear dead stock
poly shirts from the 80s and horrible 70s leather jackets that nobody wanted but now everybody thinks are cool :ugeek:

The film isn't really great by any means, I watched it once on cable and then a second time on DVD last year when I picked it up for a buck.
If you know about the author then you will see the hidden messages that seeped through from his mind into the book and then
into the movie.

Just picked up Freaked (1993) [8560-80]. Haven't seen it in years. I remember liking Alex Winter's The Idiot Box on MTV, and this has the same vibe to it. The practical effects hold up well and the movie is funnier than I remember, though the humor is quite juvenile. I enjoyed it for it what it was.

BRILLIANT film. From the Henry Rollins theme and brain shattering intro sequence to Mr. T in drag to the rastafarian eyeballs diaguised as milkmen.

Pay your respects to Santa Flan, the patron saint of creamy desserts!!!!

I adore this film. I have the Laserdisc too. I forget if mine is PAL or NTSC. It has a yellow cover.

I bought the following laserdisc via discogs because it was the only seller of this particular disc outside of the US:

https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/23326/71 ... zz--Beyond

The laserdisc is 35 years old and doesn't have digital audio. It has a few speckles but otherwise plays great. Audio is excellent.

It has a couple of nice Jazz ( fusion ) tracks from the early 80s but I mainly bought it because of the Herbie Hancock track. I love this song
and it cannot be found on any DVD etc.

I only paid approximately 6 Euro for it and it came from Norway. Had as a customs sticker too as Norway is not part of the EU.

This is the kind of laserdisc that I believe makes sense collecting. I do not think I will ever buy any title such as Independance Day every again.
I am more interested in the rarer stuff such as music titles, documentaries or BGV titles which I enjoy quite a lot.

Totally agree, I feel like for what I'm looking for in my LD collection I'm sort of done collecting unless something happens with odd discs I never knew of.

But real reason to collect LDs is for the unique stuff of music, movies and anime.
We don't need to care about ID4 or T2 anymore

That is a pretty unique player: single-side with AC-3 RF out.

Only other players I know of are the CLD-S304 which is the US model of the above and then the HLD-X0.
