Interesting. Service manual shows it as well. It adds to the weirdness of "I can afford a 5.1 system, but not Both Side Play". Especially when the CLD-D504 was only $125 more than the CLD-S304

Anyway spyrogyro, that is a nice haul. I'm quite fond of demo discs.

Same here. I have a Dolby Digital demo disc that is great to watch for the rollercoaster section alone.

Because of the Chinese bat flu instead of less than a week it took almost a month to arrive from Japan.

OMG I can't wait to sit and watch the entire film, scanned it and noticed some scenes that just look crazy.

Will try to do a review in the next few weeks, still working on painting

Bought payback and star trek insurrection and they both arrived warped beyond any practical use. I think they were sitting in the sun somewhere. Looks like i've got some flattening to do.

Finally picked up The Killer Criterion edition. Still the best version available is the LD. Though HKR are doing a Blu Ray which, if their version of Hard Boiled is anything to go by, is going to finally surpass this LD.

And yes, the shipping from the USA was heartbreaking. :(

do you have any other Criterion Laserdiscs in your collection? I hope to watch my copies (hard boiled and the killer) later this year if I can ever get them out of storage. Am thinking of upgraded to the Criterion DVDs though I think its pretty much the same but not sure.

From what I have read, the DVD is good but finding a copy now will cost you big money alas. I don't know if the DVD is slightly or significantly better than the LD, however everything I've read up on the film still points to the Criterion LD being the top pick. Even in 2020

There is a Blu Ray out. I had a quick look to see if it was worth buying. Not a chance. It is one of the worst transfers to HD that I have ever seen. A really sorry excuse for a Blu Ray release. Don't waste your time or money on it.

HKR have their version planned for this year though and everything of theirs seems to get glowing feedback. I purchased the HKR version of Hard Boiled based on the reviews. They have what they claim is a true HD print from a Japanese 35mm negative and superior to every other release so far. Still waiting for it to arrive from the USA. Let us hope what they and the fan reviews say is true...

I have Spinal Tap on LD from Criterion too. It has a guitar pick attached to the front of the sleeve. Still the best version as you get a TONNE of deleted footage. Not as much as the 4.5 hour version though. I had the DVD of it too but it is one of those early double sided discs that just fall apart easily.

I think we talked about this years ago on the forum but I'm sure its lost in another topic.
The LD is the best so far, and if they are releasing a bluray then it won't matter to me as I won't collect another format.

That LD was amazing, my father and I saw it on cable when it was first broadcast around 1990ish and a few months later we heard
that Criterion was releasing it, loved the movie so much we wanted to see it again widescreen etc.
So bought it when it first came out, enjoyed so many times, may need to watch that later today rather than stupid protests.

Just tested out The Killer discs. WOW! Yeah, this edition is fantastic! Really glad I got this now. The last time I saw this film properly was the old Tartan Extreme limited edition VHS.

The subtitles seem different too? Maybe that is just me?

This will definitely tide me over until the HKR blu!

I'm guessing you never saw the Techmoan video about laserdisc? I think he specifically used The Killer as an example of the CAV feature, and he pointed out that the Criterion LD is the only way to see the movie with "correct" subtitles - using that same Tartan VHS as a comparison.

Hi odotb3,

hope you enjoyed the LD & it perhaps brought back some memories.

This title does not have a front or rear cover picture, can you update that if you can?

Every cover counts & it would be appreciated.

Cheers  .

Only watched a few eps. My yogi bear impression is still spot on after all these years.

I definitely will update it. I dont have many laserdiscs in the collection that havent had the pictures updated but the ones that I do I've slowly got around to adding. I added front and back covers for Twin Dragons the other day.
