Thanks for the input Zeta,

just had a short glimpse into the discs so far.

The Gundam Box seems fine and the quality of the transfer is very nice.
For comparison: Do you have an LDDB link to the Master Grade Box you are talking about?

When I was a kid I did love the Heidi series. At the time we did not even know it was an Anime and the german dub actually is excellent.
And they got the bavarian vibe pretty good.

Will check out the others when I got more time... and I need to find a way to get myself some subtitles. :D

Mobile Suit Gundam: Mastergrade Box [BEAL-934]

Heidi was dubbed into many languages. Not English though. It’s kind of weird…a few years ago someone sold a Heidi play set for kids…it may have actually been Playmobil, can’t remember. Anyway, it was supposedly based on that naff CG Heidi cartoon but the way the house is laid out and the look of the dog and everything…it’s very obviously based on someone’s memories of the 70s one…and for good reason. It’s a masterpiece. Everything people love about Panda Panda or Totoro was originally in this series. It’s a popular book for a reason. That old man got totally screwed! And it’s a popular TV show for reasons as well. Those goats are cute! Also Heidi is an inspiration. I also eat almost nothing but cheese on bread and I’m quite healthy also.

Its fairly easy, I had one for a short time and it did work for a short time, there is a topic here where two company models are mentioned.
Make sure it works before you buy if you get the TV One. The other I can't remember the name is harder to find but I stopped after
the TV one.
I do have files and was planning on setting up a computer monitor below my TV rather than overlay but just don't have the ambition anymore.

I just bought --fifty-- karaoke Laser Discs, including the book of songs with the disc and track locations. This is essentially a complete song library, most discs have 28 songs so there are well over a thousand total. I will not post the price, but it was very good. :) The discs do not have jackets or sleeves, so I have some good sleeves on the way for them.

Also in the picture is a Magnavox VH-8000, first generation Laser Disc player that I recently bought as well.

That's awesome man. Do American karaoke discs have goofy mini movies like that were produced for Japanese karaoke discs?

Was it normal for Karaoke discs to come without covers / proper packaging or did they originally come in at least some neutral sleeves?

Some do, some are videos, I had a bunch years ago and sold them off after a project didn't come to fruition.

They were often put into changers or other caddy things leading to the actual jackets being lost or trashed over the years. Also, bars and wedding DJs don’t always take the best care of stuff.

My set of discs includes Pioneer USA ones, but also at least one titled "Top Hits English Songs", made by Jient Ya Trading Company, made in Japan. I will have to check some of them.

They probably had at least basic sleeves, but if third-party companies made containers for quantities of discs perhaps with a method to organize and dispense them, I can see why the original sleeves could have been discarded.

Pioneer themselves made changer machines that could hold hundreds of LDs if you bought enough add-on cabinets. The purpose of these discs is to make money, not sell to some collector 30 years later. The sleeves are going to get lost unless someone specifically sets aside a place to store hundreds of sleeves they won’t need to use until the machine breaks down for good or they sell the bar and the day to day realities of business are that there just isn’t always time for that crap.

When you put the new game in the arcade machine you throw the box away because it’s a game designed to turn a profit and you’re not in the box business. Most people don’t still have the window sticker for their car or all the little rubber caps that come on the ends of all the USB cables they ever owned.

I didn't keep the boxes to all my Yamato Macross toys due to lack of space. With the boxes they're much more valuable. But anyway I thought the modern boxes were ugly and I never plan to sell my collection.

I'm def staying frosty, was -5c (23f) last night where I am. Got Terminator THX LD on its way to me, meanwhile holding it down with VHS tapes and Jack Daniels/Bushmills most nights.

Based on the last post I made here where I actually had something new, I apparently hadn't bought any new discs since March of last year. And what do I end up choosing?

Image

Oh look, more Star Wars!

Image

I've actually never seen two of these and the third I haven't seen since elementary school and remember practically nothing of, so at least this is something I can look forward to checking out. And speaking of films I've never seen before...
