Just wondering if anyone knows what the best version of Pink Floyd - Pulse is? My guess is the PAL version, though the Japanese edition does have coloured sleeves and a booklet.

Thinking of plumping for the PAL version but keen to see what the consensus is.

Well I've owned the PAL release from new, but around five or six years ago picked up the US NTSC version. The US version did have the picture inner sleeves too but there was no booklet at least not with my copy. In terms of video/sound quality definitely the PAL version for picture quality as the program was clearly originated on PAL Videotape, the US version looks decent but rather softer in comparison as you would expect after conversion to NTSC, although the PAL version does have a fair bit of chroma noise on certain scenes which is completely absent on the US version. I read somewhere that Pioneer addressed this problem on later pressings though I'm unable to confirm this but mine is certainly one of the earlier copies.

Regarding SQ, nothing to choose here, well perhaps the NTSC version did sound a tad superior but I only ever spun this on my X9 whereas the 925 handled the PAL disc if this is of any help?

I have had the PAL copy of this title in the past & at the moment own the US NTSC pressing - it is the DADC one & thankfully it shows no signs of the dreaded rot/pressing issues that plague many DADC US pressed LDs. Only passed the PAL copy on as the one I have now is in much better condition, the PAL one I had was a bit beaten up.

Picture wise the NTSC ones may be a little softer but I have not done a back-to-back comparison, the PAL copy I had was really good to my eyes back then.

Don't think you will have problems with whatever one you bag in the end.

Worth having just for The Dark Side Of The Moon performance alone.

Good luck  .

Thanks for the tip. I bagged a PAL edition late yesterday for a decent price. Looking forward to watching it. I remember the CD had an LED on it. Shame the LD doesn't have it!

Apologies for taking the thread briefly off topic. On a trip to London last summer my daughter who is a huge Floyd fan and constantly pressuring me to show her the Pulse LD demanded that the first thing we must do after arriving is make a pilgrimage to Earls Court the iconic venue for this now legendary series of concerts.

I warned her that I didn't think it would be a great idea and told her so, but she was having non of it as it was at the top of her "Must Do" list; anyway as we stepped of the tube train at Earls Court station I immediately realised that something was missing that used to partially fill the view when looking southbound from the platforms, we then made our way to the exit which was directly opposite one of the two main gated entrances to this former huge venue which dated back to the 1930s to be greeted with the sight of a tall screening totally obscuring any view. Anyway with trepidation after we crossed the road there were a few gaps in the boarding and I really wished we hadn't looked through....we were shocked to see a massive open wasteland where Pink Floyd, Genesis and many many other top artists had once performed to 20,000+ audiences over the decades, but the most gutting thing for me was that amongst this scene of devastation the flight of main entrance steps still remained in situ!......why did they leave them untouched? What a sad site and at that we quickly turned our backs and hurried back to the station.

At least we can still visit this place on our beloved LD format.....enjoy the show Ted!

Maybe it's time to upgrade my Pink Floyd: Pulse (1994) [SRLM 1505~6] (it's one of the LDs I play often).

Pink Floyd: P.U.L.S.E. Blu-ray (remastered)

Wow…it needs to be seriously better than the LD for the money they’re asking don’t you think? At least there is now a LPCM audio option unlike the 2006 DVD release and surely the PQ on this BD will finally improve a tad on the PAL LD, as the DVD which stands gathering dust as an ornament in my storage rack dosen’t come close either audibly or visually in comparison to the laserdisc on my set up imho.

Haha yeah! Seriously though I can possibly appreciate the inclusion of some of the bonus footage in the new package, but did the main feature really need to be re-edited?

The very first thing I was looking for (genuinely) was to see if the package would have the LED a la the initial CD release of Pulse. I didn't think they'd do it, given the slumping sales of physical media. The fact the LED is present, and with a replaceable battery, sold it to me. Don't care for the rest as I have the PAL Laserdisc and I bet you 7p that the re-edit will be a dogs dinner and met with pure furore and rage from Floyd fans. Unless it's some sort of limited edition (isn't everything these days), then it might have to wait a bit as I'm keen to get the Only Fools & Horses 80's Specials Blu Ray box set first.

Alternatively while I wait I could make my own with a breadboard, a 9v battery and an LED I suppose...

I wonder if the BBC have a Keith Floyd box set on the horizon too?

This one made my laugh, I had no idea who Keith Floyd was and did a google search, would be pretty brilliant to have a box of his.
Love older cooking shows.

You mean cooking shows where they have a script and nobody gets voted off? Yeah, I miss those.

Before Animal Planet became mostly about people and the Travel Channel switched to ghost chasing…

To get this off topic a little, I've been binging on the Japanese Iron Chef, its a great show and one of the last great cooking shows that aren't just
showing how to make hot plate pre prepared food.

Glad I waited it out as this arrived today. Here it is alongside my copy of the PAL Laserdisc I bought a while back. Good to have the two to compare.

I'm not watching any discs or tapes on any format at the minute as I'm in the middle of upgrading my soundbar system and using my emergency 2.1 soundbar as a gobetween until the new one turns up. I look forward to playing it soon though!

Just a word on the actual Blu itself. Jeff sent it to me in it's original shipping box, still sealed shut (housed inside a normal Jeff shipping envelope). Nice to see Jeff bothered to care enough to do that so the box wouldn't dent. AA batteries for the LED aside, it's quite a weighty set which caught me by surprise. I was expecting flimsy card, poor quality print and materials. It's actually quite a premium set. I've not activated the LED yet but I will!
