If you could have ONE modern (2001-2020) movie on Laserdisc; which would it be and why?

I'd go for a copy of Tron Legacy myself.

Just think the laserdisc look would do it justice; and the rich soundtrack would ROCK in AC3.

Just one, that is hard.

Off the top of my head Bladerunner 2049 simply because I don't think is deserved some of the negative comments (a number of which were made before it was even released - go figure). I liked it & think it was made with respect to the original - an LD in a lush gatefold sleeve would have been nice.

This was at the top of my list as well; along with Mad Max Fury Road

That's a hard one, but I'll be unoriginal and choose a Star Wars anyway, Episode 3 it will be.
First, well it's episode 3 and it's the best one.
Secondly, I'm quite curious as to what a digitally shot movie would look like on an analogue format such as the Laserdisc.
Also, since we're here to dream a little, I'd like to have it in a french DTS version :)

And of course, a nice gatefold cover.

The movie was transferred to film and shown in cinemas, so digital>analogue. I saw it this way myself when it was released.
There is actually a 35mm scan of the film floating around somewhere (there was at least one change when it was released for home video iirc), so that's digital>analogue>digital

I'd love to have:

  • The Dark Knight

But then choosing one is so hard...

  • Spirited Away
  • Gladiator
  • Baby Driver
  • Kill Bill vol.1 and vol.2 (as a boxset of course!)
  • Inception
  • Skyfall
  • Blade Runner 2049
  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy (imagine the size of the set)
  • Harry Potter 1~8 (need a dedicated shelf!)
  • Collateral
  • Gravity
  • Sin City
  • The Prestige
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (in the "guilty pleasure" category)
  • John Wick (in the "guilty pleasure" category)

And probably a few more!

Julien

Will go with INTERSTELLAR, The Christopher Nolan epic.

This would be in the tripping balls category for me personally !

Great thread topic.

Cheers

I just wish they got back to the rights for some times for a nice upgrade. I love my Halloween, Akira and Ghostbusters among others.

I don’t watch a lot of new movies but as for post-LD stuff I wish I had on LD...Interstella 5555...I’m having a hard time thinking of anything else. I got into LD mostly for anime and LD and anime pretty much died at the same time, by and large. Anything live action shot on film deserves BluRay, frankly.

I can't think of any modern movie that would benefit from being on LD since more than 90% of them are shot digitally these days.

Maybe Once Upon a Time In Hollywood since it was all shot on film (save for the scenes where they spliced some of the actors into older film clips, of course.)

But then again, it would be mastered digitally so what's the point? No one's going to pull a 1" Type C VTR out of being mothballed so they can do a fully analog mastered LD even if LD was still alive.

I think Stranger Things would be cool on LD. They did a really good job of making it look like it was set in the 80s, that smooth analog look would really complete the experience.
