Hi, I'm new to the forum!

I have a request. I've bought 3 Japanese Toei anime laserdiscs online and I want to rip them. However I don't have any laserdisc hardware or capture devices.

Do any members here based in the UK own good equipment that allows them to capture Japanese Laserdiscs? I can post them and you can keep them.

These are 2 of the 3 laserdiscs I'd like to rip, the other hasn't been documented:

I bought one of these, Gypsy guided me in the direction for this.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-Audio-Video-VHS-to-DVD-VCR-PC-HDD-Converter-Scart-Adapter-Capture-Card/133504679711?hash=item1f157fbf1f:g:9vEAAOSw6atfR2Ed

And I'm using OSB as Gypsy again told me to, its pretty easy but I have not copied anything yet, just tested it out.
Need to get it ready to copy and upload to youtube.

I’m %99 sure those have already been digitized at least once before. Do you have tape* trading friends?

* tape = video files

You could always settle for Roxio Easy VHS to DVD, they have a SCART for PAL devices.

If its been mention can someone point to me how to capture audio using the digital out. I would like to hook my CLD-79 and SPD-99 to my mac pro if possible to capture some audio that way.

I don't know about mac pro, but some desktop pc motherboards have digital coax input onboard, I have an old LGA775 mb here with both coax output and input. It's actually an older OEM HP mini tower. I guess it's possible some mb's might have optical input onboard but I don't recall seeing one myself.

Other than that it would be an audio card scenario I guess.

I can connect it directly with an optical in. I am curious on the software side and where to start.

I'm using a Gana AV2HDMI box to convert Laserdisc player output (RCA) to HDMI. Then I capture HDMI video and audio using a ClearClick HD Capture Box which saves it as an MP4 file on a flash drive.

This setup works well for me. I tried several VHS to DVD capture devices that are available on Amazon. Reviews for these devices are mixed but I had very little success. The capture software for these devices is outdated and would not run on my Windows !0 PC or 2018 Mac Mini. My HDMI setup doesn't require software setup and is not expensive. Obviously you do need a working Lasercisc player to play the disc.

I would be very interested if other people are using a similar approach. Is it the best quality capture?

It is very good for the cost. However, i have one that i bought to test (not sure if it is exact same YMMV), and it "softens" the picture, reduces the luma resolution. Here i captured using the composite to hdmi converter i got from amazon:

Compared to using a Harris X75 with OPT-A3D:

Notice the medals on the Captain's chest. For the first one, the individual lines are blurred together, but for the x75, you can make them out. However, it is getting hard to find good composite equipment these days. It's all used, old, surplus, on ebay.
