The molykote grease is what you're supposed to use in the VCRs. I wouldn't use white lithium grease as I've learned from working in the automotive industry it tends to harden after a while. White Lithium Grease is really more useful for lubricating door hinges where it can penetrate and stay there.

If things are working OK for you though then I guess I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just check on it from time to time.

Which Molykote? I wouldn't mind trying out a potentially better grease, but some of the Molykote greases look like they are still pretty much white lithium grease.

This is specifically for plastic on plastic contact. The consistency is nothing like lithium grease. That $20 tub will last you a lifetime, unless you're doing LD and VCR repairs for a living.
